PLANNING & PREPARATION
1a. Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy
When developing lessons, I utilize resources such as the books above and content specific resources to ensure I am providing students information that is developmentally appropriate and accurate in an effective manner.
STANDARDS
I reference the NCAS AND NJCCS to structure standards based lessons that target the four core standards: Creating, Performing, Responding & Connecting. This ensures developmentally appropriate lessons while challenging students to reach new levels of learning.
1b. Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
Here is an example of a pre-assessment quiz I gave before an efforts lesson to evaluate what information the students already know from prior learning. These informal assessments are used to inform my teaching to students’ needs.
This exit slip allows students to recognize their contextual understandings and personally reflect on the lessons. I also use the assessment to check student understanding.
