Julia Shicatano is an EdM candidate in Dance Education at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education. Julia completed her full-time student teaching at Middlesex County Vocational Technical High School in East Brunswick, NJ alongside cooperating teacher Cleo Mack, and a part-time internship teaching grades PK-5 in Franklin Township School District. In May 2019, Julia graduated with a BFA degree in Dance Performance from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, making the Dean’s List all eight semesters. While attending Mason Gross she had the pleasure to perform works by Chien-Ying Wang, Blair Richie, John Evans, Cleo Mack, and work with Martha Graham Dance Company members Miki Orihara and Nya Bowman. Julia has appeared in a Times Square commercial for Color Me Cosmetic, National T-Mobile commercial, performed professionally in 78moves Dance Company, Sans Limites Movement Festival at the Hudson Guild Theater, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and Amalgamate Artist Series at the New York City Center Studios. Julia was inducted into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, and serves as co-chair of the National Dance Organization Student Organization at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Shicatano currently teaches at the private dance school Washington Rock Dance Academy (NJ) Angela Bates Dance Academy (PA) and Paul Klocke Studio of Dance (PA), where she has experience teaching PK- Adult students in a variety of styles including ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, improvisation, choreography, creative movement, and yoga/pilates. Julia has also presented her own fitness master class, Mat Fusion, in multiple fitness and dance studios in Pennsylvania. As a teaching artist, she recognizes the potential in each one of her students. It is her goal to see the self-esteem and skill-set consistently rise within her dancers as they find their unique aesthetics and tap into their creative mindsets. She finds joy in sharing her art and passion with others and takes pride in teaching those who are eager to expand their minds and skills.
