CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
2a. Creating an Environment of Respect & Rapport
One of the ways I promote respect and rapport among the students is engaging in team building activities to foster a positive environment. One of the students favorite activities was writing one nice comment to every student in the class. The students in a class at Middlesex County Vocational Technical High School decided to write a compliment paper for me as well at the end of my student teaching internship which highlights the respect and rapport I foster with the students.
2b. Establishing a Culture for Learning
Students engage in many collaborative activities with their classmates that emulate a culture of learning. During classroom activities, I promote pride in work and achievable expectations for students in the productive learning environment such as through these peer feedback sentence starters. Students learn how to provide proper and positive feedback to their partner while working on refining effort qualities in the performance of a phrase. Students contribute to the development and growth of their classmates.
I also use the space in the room to promote learning such as by hanging posters and other supports students can use for building knowledge.
2c. Managing Classroom Procedures
2d. Managing Student Behavior
Here are dance classroom rules established for 1st grade students that were posted for them everyday to reference.
This is a “Battery Behavior” System used for managing student behavior. Students will fill the battery as they show good behavior in class. The battery loses power when students show negative behavior and don’t follow the classroom rules.
